Our story

A home away from home

Since 1983, the Northern Portugal Cultural Centre (NPCC) has served as the heartbeat of the Portuguese community in Oshawa and the Durham Region. Our foundation was built by a dedicated group of immigrants who sought to bring the vibrant spirit of the Minho region to their new home in Canada.

While our roots remain deeply planted in those northern traditions—most notably through the rhythmic energy and colorful costumes of our Rancho Folclórico—the NPCC has grown into a diverse home for all.

Today, our members and committee represent every corner of Portugal, from the northern mountains to the southern coast and the Atlantic islands. We take immense pride in the fact that our center is a mosaic of different backgrounds, united by a shared love for Portuguese heritage.

Whether you are here to cheer on the dancers, apply for our annual scholarship programs, or enjoy a traditional meal with friends, the NPCC is more than just a club—it’s a family. We welcome everyone to experience the warmth of Luso-Canadian culture, celebrate our shared history, and help us build a bright future together.
