It is official! The portuguese flag will fly above Oshawa City Hall from May 13 to June 10, 2013 to celebrate two important events for all Luso-Canadians – the 60th Anniversary of Portuguese Immigration to Canada and Dia de Camões which many of us recognize as Portugal Day. The request which was put forth by the Northern Portugal Cultural Centre and the Oshawa Portuguese Club was approved by Oshawa City Council at Monday’s council meeting.
The NPCC will be offering Zumba Fitness classes starting the first week of May led by certified instructor Carolina Batica. Classes will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm to 8pm and cost will be $10 per class or you can buy a $65 card which will give you 10 classes. May 13th the Portuguese community of Oshawa will be celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Portuguese Immigration to Canada and we’d like you to participate. A few months back I invited Mr. Antonio Galvão to shed some light on a conversation we were having – who were the first portuguese immigrants to arrive in Oshawa. We had the pleasure of listening to Mr. Galvão tell us stories about those first few years which we all found very interesting. The Scholarship is open to NPCC members and their children who are entering or currently enrolled in a post-secondary program. Please read the application for all the details. Last year’s recipient Andrew Pereira, took home $2000 to help him with his educational expenses. We are hoping to match this in 2013.
